Throw it against the wall and see if it sticks
Did you ever hear the saying, “throw it against the wall and hope it sticks”?
It’s a term that some business and marketing people use when they describe their approach to marketing.
What they are really saying is to try everything, and send your message to everyone and hope that some people will buy your stuff.
I don’t subscribe to that notion of marketing.
It’s a waste of money, and you don’t really know what actually worked and why.
I believe that you need to know who you’re selling to and have a strategy for helping them with your product. It just makes the whole process so much easier and puts more payola in your pocket.
I recently wrote a post that showed you 21 proven ways to convert leads with your website.
Number one of the list spoke to the idea of know who your target audience is
1. Focus on your target audience instead pitching to everyone
An important decision for your web marketing strategy is to determine who your target audience is – and who it isn’t. Getting a bunch of traffic on your site is well and good, but converting visits to sales is even better.
Determine your target market – whether it’s specialized professionals in your field or crochet enthusiasts who love cats and mermaids – and tailor your strategies to attracting their traffic and business.
So before you decide to just go out and try to market to everyone and hope it sticks – take some time and define your target.
